One of the most sensitive and dynamic young classical sitar players internationally, the brilliant Shakir Khan follows in the footsteps of his illustrious father and guru Shahid Parvez. He represents the 8th generational link in an unbroken chain of musical talent and tradition and is an exponent of the Etawah gharana (school) that was founded by maestro Imdad Khan, grandfather of the late Vilayat Khan. From his first public performance at the age of 11, to tours with his famed father and appearances at India’s most prestigious music festivals, he has proved himself a worthy heir to one of the world’s oldest and greatest classical traditions. In Shakir Khan’s first NY public appearance, he will be accompanied by the young tabla virtuoso Enayet Hossain.
